Groundbreaking at Lake Nona - A New Era for Orlando

Get ready to mark your calendars. Tomorrow, October 3rd, there will be a groundbreaking celebration to kick off the start of a new economic era in Orlando. Burnham Institute for Medical Research, and the UCF College of Medicine break ground in Lake Nona at the region's emerging life sciences cluster. Mayor Buddy Dyer and a host of other speakers will be in attendance.

We've mentioned the changes coming to Lake Nona, and Burnham Institute and the UCF College of Medicine will serve as the cornerstone for the growing area, which, when complete, will have a tremendous economic impact on Orlando ranging in the billions of dollars, and generating thousands of jobs in the next ten years.

Other planned projects for the Lake Nona Science and Technology Park include Orlando Veterans Affairs Hospital and the Nemours Orlando Children's Hospital and Research Campus.

Living only a few miles from Lake Nona, I'm extremely excited about the changes coming. I can't say I'm thrilled about the traffic congestion this will cause, but from what I've heard, Narcoossee Road, which, along with SR 417 will serve as the arteries for this new complex, is set to get a nice facelift very soon to accommodate the increase in residents. We're still waiting for more information on the Lake Nona open-air mall, which we receive a ton of questions about, so as soon as we get word, we'll let you know.
