What's a Real Estate Blog?

First, I'd like to welcome my new readers. My last video stirred things up a bit, and introduced my site to many (MANY) new readers. My subscribers doubled, so thank you to all my new fans.

Most of my readers are familiar with blogs, but I still have a few people ask me almost daily, "What's a blog?" If you don't know what a blog is, I found this video that should make it very simple to understand. Pay close attention to the "Comment" portion. That's where you, my loyal readers, share your thoughts, and become part of the ekday blog.

Time to Speak Up!

an axe
Well, if you read my blog (and thanks if you do), you no doubt saw my post from yesterday. I posted a light-hearted video asking if sex really does sell. Turns out, it's still unclear if sex sell, but posting a "Does Sex Sell" video sure does get you fired.

The video has been making its rounds, and I decided to share it with a few of most closest friends in my office. One of them decided to forward it to our team leader, who then forwarded it to my broker. I received a call from the team leader saying she wasn't happy with the video. She said she didn't really know what to say, and that the video looked very professional, and the music was "nice," but she didn't think it was acceptable. Later last night, I missed a call from my broker, and she left a less-than-nice voicemail disapproving of the video.

Fast forward to about 30 minutes ago. My phone rings, and it's my broker. She stresses how unhappy with this video she is. She admits that she, and the others in the office got a good laugh from it, but she did NOT want the video associated with her office. Well, if you watch the video, it makes no mention of her office, but she said that wasn't good enough.

Twenty minutes later, I get an ultimatum: "Take the video down, or I'll have to let you go."

The video is still up, and I no longer work for this broker.

So how do you feel about this? Should I have been fired over the video? I am an independent contractor, and work for MYSELF! I pay all of my own marketing costs.

Please tell me what you think in the comments. I don't have a job now, so I have plenty of time to read your replies Winking

Can Sex Sell Real Estate?

Have you noticed how desperate Realtors have gotten trying to sell their listings? Yeah, us too. As a matter of fact, we decided to take it a step further, and see if the ultimate selling tool could work to sell real estate. The premise is simple - we made a very small video smothered in sex. Now we'll just wait for the buyers to start calling to buy our listings.

Here's the video - and be warned - it is NOT safe for work, or children.

Two Orlando Intersections to Get Cameras - You've Been Warned

It's no surprise that red-light runners cause a large portion of Orlando's accidents. Let's face it, we're a tourist town, so we often have to deal with drivers not familiar with the area. Well, the Orange County commissioners have decided to do something about the red-light runners, and will be meeting today to discuss placing cameras at two local intersections, according to Wesh.com. To me, the surprising part about this is the location of the cameras. The cameras will be located at the intersections of West Colonial Drive, and Hiawassee Road, and the other will be at South Orange Blossom Trail, and Holden. I've included a map for you to see the exact locations.

orlando map

These two intersections account for nearly 4,000 drivers running red-lights a day. No final decision has been made regarding the results of being caught running a light on camera, but it could lead to warning letters, or code enforcement.

Consider this your warning. These are the only cameras that I know of, but I'm sure there will be more to follow.

Blog Action Day - Clean Up Orlando

orlando seagull
We made a commitment to participate in Blog Action Day a few months ago, and it's finally here. If you missed our post explaining the concept, you can read our Blog Action Day Intro to get started.

I have been thinking of interesting topics, and great ways to get green that I could share here, but I decided that if I posted something that I couldn't do myself, what's the point, so I'm going to keep this extremely simple.

orlando recycle
If you currently live in Orlando, or are planning to move to Orlando, you're probably very aware of the city's beauty (they don't call it "The City Beautiful" for nothing). We're also only an hour from the beaches on either coast. My inspiration for this post came while Team Ekday (I just made that up) was out surfing at Cocoa Beach, and we saw a seagull trapped in a plastic 6-pack soda holder thing (I've included a picture if you're not familiar with the technical name). The seagull had one foot through a small home, and his head trapped in a larger hole. Luckily, we weren't the first to see the poor bird - a local marine and wildlife expert was trying to remove the plastic when we saw it. We spoke with him, and he said these plastic rings are a huge problem, and trap birds and sea turtles frequently.

There's really a simple solution to this. Before throwing out the plastic holder, cut (or tear) the rings. That's it. Just make sure there are no rings left for the wildlife to get trapped in. That's the great thing about Blog Action Day - there are so many blogs writing on this topic today, that you'll surely find the solution to saving the world by reading other blogs, but it gives us a chance to just keep it simple. Just make a promise to shred those wrappers, and you'll be one small step closer to helping the environment!

Here are a few other blogs participating in Blog Action Day:
- Behance is writing about Adopt The Sky
- FreelanceFolder is talking about Plastic Bags
- CopyBlogger has a great post about The Butterfly Effect
- Dumb Little Man is discussing all those Items you never thought to recycle

Going Once, Twice, Sold! Orlando Real Estate Auction This Weekend

Orlando Real Estate Auction
Ekday's good friend Marcus Burke of Condo Metropolis has just posted about an Orlando real estate auction being held October 6th - THIS WEEKEND! The first auction had great success, so if you missed it, this is your chance to redeem yourself.

Fox News will be there to cover the event, and with properties worth over $2 million going up for grabs, why wouldn't they be? A number of the properties being auctioned will be "Auction Absolute," meaning they will be sold regardless of the price, with low reserves on the other properties.

If you make it out to the event, let us know how it worked out for you. We'd love to hear stories about a few of the deals from the day.
